How Celebrity is Celebrity

Rebecca Garland asked:

What really makes a celebrity a true celebrity? Is it the news coverage? The pursuit of tabloids? Perhaps sheer popularity is what drives us to call movie stars, musicians, and politicians celebrities. If that is the case, are the non-traditional stars celebrities as well?

In order to find a satisfactory answer to this dilemma, one must look for a celebrity index. CelebrityContest.net has developed an algorithm to assign a value to a celebrity, much as stocks are assigned a monetary value in order for site visitors or members to build celebrity portfolio. The algorithm takes into consideration the amount and timing of news items pertaining to celebrities as well as the popularity of the celebrity as a portion of online portfolios. But does this adequately measure the amount of celebrity status an individual has achieved?

Celebrity

To determine this, we need to consider what celebrity actually means. The American Heritage Dictionary defines celebrity as “a famous person,” or “renown, fame.” That definition is very broad indeed. To be renown is to simply be well-known. Osama Bin Laden is well-known, but does not necessarily have the same following as Jessica Alba. By this definition, however, they are both celebrities.

Thus, to be a celebrity, one must be either famous or infamous, and the distinction is not relevant. By this same token, individuals who have developed a following in unconventional ways such as the internet or reality programming are certainly celebrities as well – albeit some have more global coverage than others. So to measure the amount of celebrity an individual has obtained, one would simply need to measure his or her popularity.

Measuring Popularity

Before the information age, to measure popularity would involve countless newspaper and magazine searches. Print resources as well as television and radio contained any and all celebrity news and gossip. With the advent of the internet, this changed, of course. In present times, the internet has not only opened countless doors to those aspiring to stardom, but has developed a multitude of news and gossip outlets as well.

Most of the conventional media outlets – magazines, newspapers, radio, and television have developed an online presence. Often these websites contain more information pertaining to celebrities than the original medium. Those interested in entertainment news now have almost countless methods to find the information they seek.

The fastest way to find information online, however, is through the search engines. Major search engines index all web pages and online news items as they are developed, and offer users a chance to hone in on the desired material. Searching for celebrities will pull up thousands, if not millions, of relevant results. It follows that by simply counting the number of searches and articles for each celebrity, one could understand the popularity of that individual.

Celebrity Contest

It seems the algorithm developed by CelebrityContest.net holds true. The algorithm assigns value to a celebrity based on the number and age of news items and searches, which is the best indicator of popularity. Of course, the algorithm also includes results from CelebrityContest.net, which are a valid indicator as well.

If a celebrity is popular, he or she will be included in many portfolios. If he is becoming blasé, he will be dropped from portfolios in favor of more popular individuals. If a celebrity is looking for a gauge of her own value, she can perform a complicated web analysis, or simply track her price changes on CelebrityContest.net to understand how her fan base is feeling. Of course, fans can search for the value of their favorite celebrity, and even cash in on the details only devoted fans are privy to – insider trading if you will.

Celebrity Breasts – What Size Are They, and Who’s Had Plastic Surgery?

Danna Schneider asked:

Celebrities and Breast Size – They’re Not as Naturally Blessed as You Might Think

The obsession over cosmetic perfection and, more recently, breast size, has sparked a rash of Hollywood “upsizing” in the breast department. Who’s natural, what cup size are they, and who’s had breast surgery? The answers may or may not be surprising. In other words, you might be shocked at just how much a push up bra can deceive to the tune of 1,2 and even three cup sizes!

Celebrities – How they Influence What We Want in a Breast Size

What determines the size of a full grown woman’s breasts? Is it primarily environmental or outside influences, or is it all “in the genes”? The final size of a woman’s mature breasts is mostly determined by heredity and can range from very small AA cups to very full EE cups. Breast size varies greatly among women, but the average breast size is a B cup, and all sizes and shapes are normal and healthy, although they may not fit the conventional idea of breast beauty.

For some reason, probably the increasing popularity of breast augmentation surgery and the overwhelming number of female celebrities who are considered sexy who have this breast size, the common perception today is that the perfect size is a C cup. See some famous celebrity breast sizes below, and you’ll see these famous women are as diverse as the rest of us. Although they may all look like they have C cups in the movies or in videos, you’ll see what they’ve really got without the padding, underwire and inserts!

Celebrity Breast Sizes – Does Their Cup Truly Runneth Over?

Jennifer Lopez cup size: Modest B cup

Angelina Jolie boob size: C cup: Hate to break it to you, but these are probably real. Yes, she is genetic perfection in the form of a waif thin body and large breasts, I’m afraid.

Britney Spears breast size: Modest C cup (when she’s not pregnant or is on the slimmer side)

Christina Aguilera: Pre Breast Implants: A cup
Post Breast Implants: Large C cup

Catherine Bell cup size: Large D cup: Not definitive that she has implants, but I suspect she was a fairly busty woman who also had implants, which is why this large breast size looks so natural on her, and yet she doesn’t have a whole lot of sagging for such a large size.

Jessica Simpson bra size: Small D cup: Jessica Simpson is another celebrity that has been puzzled over as to whether she has implants. Some “experts” say yes, and some say she’s natural. I just want to know how she lost all that weight and didn’t lose a bit of breast size. Hmmm…

Jessica Alba bra size: Small B cup: Although Jessica Alba is one of those celebs that has worn many a push up bras and I suspect has also worn gel inserts to change cup size so drastically between films, you can tell she has a natural breast size of about a small B cup. She also has very little body fat, which accounts for her perfectly natural smaller size.

While many of us may not be happy with the appearance of our breasts, it is good to know that they do come in all sizes and shapes, and we can actually improve their appearance – whether it be increasing their size, enhancing the shape and contour of the breast, or adding to the perkiness, firmness and perfect beauty of the female form, if we are not happy with our current breast size and appearance. There are lots of ways to do this. Massage, exercise, supplementation and just an all around good diet are a few of the ways.

It’s just good to know that some of the most beautiful celebrities in the world have either had a lot of help from a plastic surgeon in the breast department, or they are not as large as they are made to look on screen. It goes to show that the most important thing is that you are happy with yourself, and feeling beautiful has much more to do with confidence and other areas other than your breasts.

Celebrity Bodyguards Need Discretion?

Harlan Austin asked:

So you want to be a celebrity bodyguard: do you have discretion?

One important skill that you need as a bodyguard is discretion. Discretion is the skill of keeping secrets and not disclosing information to people who should not know it. One difficulty to being a personal bodyguard is you have to treat your job as if you are in the CIA. You can never share any information with anyone. Never. Ever. You never know when it’s going to come back and haunt you. So what I’m saying is learn how to keep your mouth shut.

As a celebrity bodyguard you hear and see a lot of things, and celebrities live a very interesting life. You are so close to someone and are around them all the time, so there is no room for modesty or having to correct oneself. The celebrity must be able to feel free enough to be themselves and confident it will not be a public issue.

The National Enquirer and other tabloids will pay you a lot of money for some of the secrets you’ll know. But you’ll never be able to work in this industry again if you say anything to anyone. Being discreet is perhaps the most important ‘skill’ required to be successful as a professional bodyguard. When you are dealing with anyone’s life, especially one about whom the public is desperate to know, you always have to think before you speak, whether to family, friends, fans or reporters. I make it a point of NEVER asking a celebrity about his or her personal life. If and when the celebrity becomes comfortable with me, and we have built a relationship based on trust, he or she will often bring it up.”

You may think something as harmless as giving your celebrity’s home address to a company you’re buying something from is nothing big. But who knows who’s taking your order? It could be a crazed fan. So you have to have a secure mailing address to get packages.

Remember you are the buffer between the outside world and your celebrity. That means you have to learn how to fend off the press as well. Maybe you’re setting up a party for your boss and some nice looking gal or guy wants to know where it’s going to be. You have to keep that information from them at all costs. Get used to repeating yourself and saying, “He/she can’t give an interview right now. Thanks for your interest.” You’ll get to know what you need to say, but basically, you’re revealing nothing. That’s the point.

Overall, what’s expected is everything it takes to make the life of your celebrity easier, more comfortable, and the main thing SAFER, and that will vary according to with whom you’re working. Anticipating needs is a big one— being able to look at a situation and determine what can go wrong and make sure it doesn’t; or knowing how to fix a problem once it occurs (which requires you to familiarize yourself with all the players, their jobs, and who has the power to make the problem go away, quickly), which means you better have some terrific relationships in place. This, of course, takes time and experience.”

Celebrity Hairstyles in 2007: Jessica Alba’s Look

Brooke Hayles asked:

If you are searching for a new look this year, why not check out the latest celebrity hairstyles in 2007. Most women like to start a new year with a new hair style and where better to go for inspiration than to the pictures of the stars. Celebrities have to look their best because so much of what constitutes celebrity is image. To keep this image, the stars have the best stylists around to keep them on their toes.

It’s a good idea to copy celebrity hairstyles. Not only does it set a trend, but if we get it right, we look better ourselves. Just remember when you do this, you will only look your best if you choose a style that suits you. When you look at some of the emerging celebrity hairstyles in 2007, remember that celebrity stylists are very careful to get the look just right. This means taking into consideration the star’s natural coloring and the shape of her face. Blonde hair may look great on Kate Moss but will it suit your own skin-tone? Blonde hair is good with fair skin but it doesn’t suit everyone.

Whether you choose blonde or not, there seems to be a trend towards short and curly this year. Both Jessica Alba and Elizabeth Banks have gone for wavy hair with a side part and plenty of volume reminiscent of the 1920’s and ’30’s. This is a style that is very wearable and suits most face shapes – worth giving it a try if you like the shorter styles.

If you like your hair long, why not take a leaf out of Beyonce’s book and give it some curl. If you want this style to stay looking good, you need to make sure your hair has plenty of body and shine – two top tips for celebrity hairstyles in 2007.

Celebrity News Gossip Photos & Videos

Jimmy Wilson asked:

When it’s celebrity news and gossip you want, there’s never an end to the latest scoop on the hottest ladies in Hollywood. It’s as if they are required to do something stupid on a schedule.

From child neglect to private home movies exposing their most personal photos, the girls from the big screen and the music venues are forever letting it all hang out. Currently it seems Britney Spears can do no right. With her losing custody of her children to now losing her visitation rights to boot, Britney is the hottest media ticket in town.

With an endless supply of beauties, you can always expect to see some of them in the National Enquirer or on the tube shows, like Extra or the Inside Edition, Hollywood episodes. Lindsey Lohan has filled the tabloids lately with her early checkouts from rehab.

Britney Spears has totally lost it. Even her own mother applauded the court rulings against her. Seems as though her mother is to the point of administering a ‘tough love’ approach to her situation.

The top 10 celebrity females are Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Vanessa Minnillo, Hayden Panettiere, Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Pamela Anderson, Eva Longoria, Aishwarya Rai.

While Jessica Simpson is an equal from the hottie’s category, she appears to be staying out of the limelight, or at least she’s behaving and that doesn’t make the celebrity new circuit.

Celebrity News & Gossip keeps the home fires burning for those of us without a life and we live to see what our age matched famous counterparts are up to. Other than the great weight loss programs they seem to pull off, I for one am completely satisfied that all my dirty laundry comes out of the washer and is washed down the pipes.

Suspicious Celebrity Deaths

Jennifer Jordan asked:

At a family dinner the other night, my dad informed my sisters and me that he was the father of Anna Nicole’s baby….. sure Dad and Brad Pitt is leaving Angelina for me. While my father’s statement was said in jest, it got me to thinking about the infatuation we as a culture have had with Anna Nicole since her death (and even before). If my father, a sixty-five year old man (sorry Dad, I mean a forty-five year old man) is abreast to the latest Anna Nicole news, then who isn’t?

The jury, or rather the autopsy, is still out on exactly how Anna Nicole died. All we really know is that she died young and, it doesn’t matter who you are, that’s a tragedy. Anna’s death could be the result of any number of things. Though foul play is not suspected, her death is suspicious and that’s enough to make the ears of our culture perk up: not only are we obsessed with celebrities, but we become even more obsessed when they are involved in a suspicious death, their own or someone else’s.

Anna is not the first celebrity to be involved in an untimely, strange death and, sadly, she probably won’t be the last. Deaths laden in suspicion nearly seem to come with celebrity territory, packaged in the Styrofoam peanuts of stardom.

O.J. Simpson

O.J. Simpson was acquitted of the 1994 deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and a friend of hers, Ronald Goldman. For this reason, I can’t say that O.J. is a murderer, but allow me to call this portion of my article: If He Did It.

Prior to becoming a murder suspect, O.J. was loved as a Hall of Fame running back, a Hertz spokesman, an actor, and a man with a million dollar smile. That all fell apart when he became the prime suspect in a brutal murder: it was a suspicion that led the police on the world’s slowest high speed chase down a California highway.

Though a jury failed to convict him, the throngs of guilt still surround him and his name has become synonymous with the word “murderer.” Hertz, doesn’t it O.J.?

Some people believe he was acquitted because of his celebrity status, while others believe it was because of mistakes the prosecution made during the trial. Whatever the reasons for his acquittal during the criminal trial, they didn’t stick in the civil trial. On February 5, 1997, O.J. was found guilty in a wrongful death suit and ordered to pay over 33 million dollars in damages. With pensions protected from seizure, he is rumored to still be able to live his acquired lifestyle leaving those who believe he is guilty angry and under the impression that the justice system is an oxymoron.

Robert Blake

From an Our Gang character to a Baretta icon to a murder suspect, Robert Blake is a man of many faces. In 2000, he married a woman named Bonnie Lee Bakley after tests proved that she was pregnant with his child. It was his second marriage and her – introducing the adage never a bridesmaid and always a bride – tenth.

In May of 2001, Bakely was murdered by gun shot in a car while waiting for Blake to return from the restaurant where they had just dined. Blake was eventually arrested for murder, not accused of actually pulling the trigger but of hiring the person who did. After going on trial, Blake was acquitted.

Like O.J. Simson, an acquittal in the criminal trial did not hold up in the civil suit. In late November of 2005, a jury agreed with the wrongful death suit filed against Blake. He was ordered to pay 30 million dollars. A few months later, Blake found himself filing for bankruptcy.

Rebecca Lucile Schaeffer

Only 21 years old when she was shot and killed n 1989, Rebecca Lucile Schaeffer had a career that was just getting started. Best known for her role in the sitcom My Sister Sam, Schaeffer was shot by Robert Bardo, a 19-year-old who was a crazed fan. After stalking her for three years, writing letters and attempting to gain access onto the set of My Sister Sam, Bardo hired a private investigator to find her place of residence. The PI was able to locate it through DMV records.

Bardo dressed up as a flower delivery man and approached Schaeffer’s doorway. When she answered, he shot her once in the heart. He was arrested the next day.

The death of Schaeffer set the ball in motion for California’s anti-stalking laws. It also helped change the law regarding the release of information through the DMV.

Natalie Wood

A child-turned-adult-actress, Natalie Wood was the face of a generation. Known for her roles in Rebel Without a Cause and West Side Story as well as her dating life – a life that saw her court the likes of Elvis, Raymond Burr, Warren Beauty, and Dennis Hopper – her death was also not void of drama. Even today, mysteries still remain.

In 1981, at the age of 45, Wood drowned while onboard a yacht with her husband, Robert Wagner, and Christopher Walken. No one knows for certain what happened and the reports varied. One theory suggests that Wagner and Walken got into a disagreement and, while they argued, Wood fell overboard. Though a witness on shore reported hearing Wood cry for help – as well as the two men reasurring her that they were coming – Wagner, Walken, and the man piloting the yacht all said they never heard anything.

Wood was legally drunk at the time and this likely compromised her ability to swim. Bruises were also found on her body, but these were ambigious, possibly being a result of her fall.

Brandon Bruce Lee

The son of the greatest martial artist of all time, Brandon Lee, just like his father, met an untimely death. In 1994, while filiming the movie The Crow, Lee was shot by a gun that was supposed to be a harmless prop. Instead, a bullet was lodged in the revolver. When the trigger was pulled – as written in the script – the reverberation of the blanks cause the bullet to propel, ultimatley shooting Lee in the abdomen. Despite a five hour attempt to save him, Lee was pronouced dead at the age of 28. The footage of his fictional-turned-real death scene was destroyed but the movie was eventually finished.

Some people suspect that Lee was a victim of foul play; the freak accident that claimed his life just seemed a little too far fetched. Others, however, believe that his death was part of the Bruce Lee curse. Bruce Lee also died young, suffering from brain swelling at the age of 32.
